Why the HRC sucks.
A few times a month, I get a message asking about why I think the HRC is so bad. People tend to not be able to see past the equal sign and admittedly effective marketing. Because of this I decided to do a link dump on the HRC.
Here’s why the HRC is bad for all queer and trans* people:
- Thechickitionary has an overview put together when the red equal sign became a thing
- They’re a bunch of out touch beltway Washington lobbyists that only care about politics, and mostly exist to pump money from yuppy liberals with feel good, exclusionary, politics
- HRC representatives removed a transgender pride flag at a marriage equality event, because marriage equality “isn’t a transgender issue”
- TransGriot has a summery of the HRC’s history of being trans-exclusive, this includes pushing for excluding trans people from ENDA, working with people like Sen. Barney Frank (who has a history with that) to keep pushing a trans-exclusive ENDA.
- Former HRC Executive Director Elizabeth Birch: “trans inclusion will be a legislative priority over my dead body”.
